APRIL's pulp and paper mill complex is situated on a 1,750 hectare site at Pangkalan Kerinci, near Pekanbaru in Riau Province, Sumatra.
Within this huge complex sits the APRIL town site. The town site features a complete residential complex including six three-storey apartment buildings, 850 dormitory rooms and more than 1,400 houses.
All essential facilities have been created here including local and international schools, medical clinics, places of worship, sport facilities, shops, food courts and a hotel. Electricity for the town comes from the mill's power plant.
Rising from what used to be vast greenfields, the town site is now a self-contained community and home to more than 5,000 people from different countries. It's a new home away from home.
Adjacent to the APRIL complex is the town of Pangkalan Kerinci. Formerly a small village of around 200 homes, the town is now populated by more than 60,000 people working in a range of industries, many of which supply APRIL with goods, services and equipment.
