No business can exist in isolation from the surrounding community. This is particularly true for forest industry companies whose activities are spread over vast areas.

The success of APRIL continues to draw people from various parts of Indonesia to do business, work and re-locate to the nearby villages. The town of Pangkalan Kerinci is now home to some 60,000 people. Ten years ago, before APRIL started, there were fewer than 200 people there.

But with such massive growth in APRIL's surrounding communities comes corporate social responsibility. It is APRIL's firm commitment that it participates in community empowerment, in providing public infrastructure, in nurturing the future generation and in fostering good governance in newly formed local district government units. These constitute the essence of APRIL's Community Development Program.
