The
heart of the pulp and paper industry is the wood. Manufacturers worldwide
face an ongoing challenge to secure wood supplies that do not deplete finite
areas of natural forest and degrade the environment.
APRIL’s solution is Sustainable Forestry Management, which uses
previously exploited land, zoned by the government for tree plantation development
to create renewable forest resources, which are sustainable environmentally,
socially beneficial, and commercially viable over the long term.
The Environmental Management System of APRIL’s forestry operations has been certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 14001.
With total control over every stage of the growing and production process… from nursery through to finished product… APRIL can guarantee the quality that customers expect, and the environmental responsibility that the world demands.
APRIL’s intention is to have 300,000 hectares of renewable plantations (primarily acacia species) in production by 2008/09. This will provide sufficient wood for the production of 2 million tons of pulp per annum on a sustainable basis.
