The APRIL pulp and paper complex is powered by one of the world's largest integrated co-generation power plants, with an installed capacity of 435MW of electricity and some 700 kg/sec. of steam. An integrated production facility in itself, the plant was designed to meet all power, steam, water and pressurized air requirements of the manufacturing complex and the APRIL town site.
The energy from the plant is produced from black liquor and bark, bio fuels generated as by-products of the pulp making process. About 75% of total energy production comes from black liquor, and the balance primarily from bark.
The entire power management system is computerized to optimize power efficiency.
Not only does the power plant make the APRIL complex completely energy self-sufficient, but there is also enough additional energy to power the nearby town of Pangkalan Kerinci.
