The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, or PEFC, is an international, non-profit and non-governmental organisation that provides independent third-party certification to ensure sustainable use of forest resources through:
- Sustainable Forest Management certification (SFM)
This recognises operations that maintain a forest's ecological, social and economic values.
- Chain of Custody certification (CoC)
This refers to close monitoring of each step of the supply chain from forest to customer.
This means that APRIL Group products are sourced legally and with respect to the environment through sustainable forest management.
PEFC promotes sustainable forest management, which refers to good practices that do not compromise the needs of future generations. These require a balance between growth and removals, strong awareness of cultural values, desire to maintain biodiversity and forest health, and the wise use of natural resources.
GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
APRIL Group values and takes environmental sustainability very seriously. PEFC protects biodiversity, prohibiting the certification of forest-converted plantations and bans the use of hazardous chemicals and GMOs.
GOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY
APRIL Group cares about the welfare of society. PEFC protects workers’ rights, encourages local employment, and complies with all ILO Conventions, while tailoring to specific social, health and safety needs of communities.
Stakeholders from all parts of society, including forest owners, NGOs, businesses and governments, are also involved in developing PEFC standards.
GOOD FOR THE CLIMATE
