Quality education is vitally important for each and every human being, and is number four in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

It’s for this reason that APRIL subsidiary RAPP provides scholarships to promising students from local communities.

Resi Wilinsih comes from Gunung Sahilan, Kampar Regency, Riau, and was determined to earn a higher education in order to improve her family’s economic situation. Her father is a smallholder who earns around Rp1.5 million (approximately US$112) a month, while her mother is a housewife.

When he first saw a group of people practicing martial arts near his house, Muhammad Zulfikri had no idea it was the beginning of a journey that would take him on a medal-winning tour around the world.

Zul, now aged 18 years old, immediately asked his parents to sign him up for karate lessons.

Eight years later the home he shares with his parents in Indonesia’s Riau province is overflowing with medals and trophies won from international tournaments.

APRIL has had a busy month, selling basic commodities at discounted prices to benefit local communities in Riau throughout June.

Held at 16 locations around the region along with other companies under RGE, the culmination was held at the Integrated Training and Business Development Center (BPPUT), Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau on 18 June 2017 and attended by the Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita.

The Minister was accompanied by representatives of the Riau Provincial Government, as well as RGE Director, Anderson Tanoto. They witnessed the bazaar and helped distribute 8,000 grocery packages at below the market price. The minster expressed his appreciation at the event, and at RGE’s commitment to help the community.

For many of us, fighting fires for a living would be exciting enough. But when Boy Sastra first saw RAPP’s fleet of airboats, he knew he needed more.

"The first time I saw the airboat, I knew that was what I wanted to do," said the 27-year-old, who has been employed as a firefighter for the APRIL subsidiary in Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau, since 2010.

Together with seven team members, Boy operates the three airboats which are ideally suited to traversing the swamp-like waters averaging just 30cm in depth, too shallow for a propeller-driven boat. RAPP’s firefighters also use cars, trucks and helicopters to reach fires wherever they occur.
