Jakarta Globe: Taming the flame with FFVP

Jakarta Globe has told the story of Ihsan Kusnaidi, a man who was inspired to join APRIL’s Fire Free Village Program (FFVP) after the 2015 haze left his son suffering from severe respiratory illness.

"My eldest son had to be admitted to the hospital because he couldn't breathe,” he said.

Today Ihsan is a crew leader in FFVP, educating the local community on the dangers of using fire to clear land.

FFVP rewards local communities for preventing fires on their land, and has been so successful that it was recently expanded to cover 20 villages.
