Reducing Stunting Prevalence & Increasing Access to Health Services

APRIL supports the government’s programme to reduce the prevalence of stunting and malnutrition in children under five years of age in surrounding communities. The programme is in line with APRIL2030's Inclusive Progress pillar, which aims to reduce stunting prevalence in Riau by 50%. The programme uses two approaches:

  • Top-down intervention (local government level) –APRIL supports the government’s National Strategy to Accelerate Stunting Reduction by working together with local governments to provide coaching and counselling, and run workshops.
  • Bottom-up intervention (village level) – improving the capacity of healthcare centre (Posyandu) volunteers, providing supplementary food for malnourished toddlers and pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency, provision of equipment to healthcare centres, health campaigns, and monitoring of Posyandu activities.
