Latest news, updates and information on APRIL Group

PELALAWAN, RIAUAPRIL Group hosted Board Packaging Week (BPW) 2026 from 23–25 June 2026 in Pelalawan, Riau. The inaugural forum brought together players from across the printing and packaging industry, including technology suppliers, printing companies, and brand owners, to discuss innovation, operational excellence, and opportunities to develop premium and sustainable packaging solutions.

BPW 2026 brought together more than 75 participants from 37 companies representing the printing industry, brand owners, and APRIL’s strategic partners from across Indonesia, including Greater Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Riau, and West Sumatra. Through the forum, APRIL Group brought together customers, prospective customers, brand owners, and technology partners to strengthen collaboration and deepen understanding of paperboard production processes, packaging applications, and evolving market demand for premium, efficient, and sustainable packaging solutions.

Under the theme “Synergizing Operational Excellence for Premium Packaging Performance,” BPW 2026 highlighted the importance of alignment across the packaging value chain, from paperboard manufacturing and printing to finishing processes, as a key driver of sustainable packaging productivity.

Addressing the Growing Demand for Premium and Sustainable Packaging

BPW 2026 took place against the backdrop of increasingly complex challenges facing the packaging industry. Industry players are expected to deliver packaging that is not only visually appealing but also safe, consistent, efficient to produce, cost-competitive, and more environmentally responsible. At the same time, printing companies and brand owners are under growing pressure to reduce waste, maintain finished-product quality, and respond to increasing demand for paperboard-based packaging.

Deputy Global Commercial Head Paperboard at APRIL, Sofyan Panding, said the outlook for the paperboard industry remains highly positive over the next three to five years. Growth is being driven by rising packaging demand across the food and beverage sector, e-commerce, food delivery services, as well as the broader shift away from single-use plastics.

“The outlook for the paperboard industry over the next three to five years is very positive. Demand continues to grow significantly, both in Indonesia and globally. Paperboard also offers one solution for replacing single-use plastics, which is aligned with the industry’s shift towards more sustainable solutions,” said Sofyan.

Through BPW 2026, APRIL Group further strengthened industry understanding of the capabilities and applications of BoardOne™ as a paperboard solution for premium packaging, food service, and a range of other paper-based packaging needs. BoardOne™ is suitable for a variety of applications, including hot and cold beverage cups, food trays, and other types of food packaging.

Connecting the Value Chain from Upstream to Downstream

Over the three-day event, BPW 2026 participants took part in a range of activities, including workshops, panel discussions, industry experience-sharing sessions, site visits to APRIL Group’s operational facilities, and networking sessions. Participants also had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into APRIL Group’s integrated operations in Pelalawan, from nurseries to mill operations.

The event also involved several strategic industry partners, including PT Siegwerk Indonesia, PT DIC Graphics, PT Henkel Indonesia, PT Heidelberg Indonesia, KIT Technology Sdn. Bhd., and PT BASF Indonesia, alongside industry experts who shared insights into technology, innovation, and packaging product development.

A key focus of BPW 2026 was to showcase APRIL Group’s capabilities as a BoardOne™ manufacturer, supported by renewable resources, modern manufacturing technology, and an integrated supply chain from raw materials to product distribution to customers.

On the same occasion, Iwan Yudho Oktavia of PT Berkat Asia Kemasindo shared that his company uses BoardOne™, APRIL’s paperboard product, to support its packaging production, particularly for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical segments. According to him, the product’s consistent quality, clean paper surface, and colour stability have had a positive impact on the company’s productivity.

“Since using BoardOne™, we have been very satisfied with its quality. The paper has a clean surface. Its colour stability has also helped improve productivity at our facility. Board Packaging Week also provided us with valuable new insights into technological developments, paperboard characteristics, and industry trends that we can apply to our production processes going forward,” said Iwan.

Through the event, APRIL Group aims to strengthen collaboration with customers, prospective customers, and strategic partners to support a more innovative, competitive, and sustainable printing and packaging industry.

Looking ahead, Board Packaging Week is planned to become a regular event, serving as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders across the packaging industry ecosystem.
