For communities surrounding APRIL Group’s operations in Riau Province, Indonesia, livelihood opportunities often begin with what resources already exist close to home: the land they manage, crops suited to local conditions, and the knowledge shared among community members.
Across Siak and Pelalawan Regencies, local farmer groups are transforming underutilised land and local agricultural potential into productive, income-generating opportunities.
Turning idle land into banana plantations
In Kampung Rawa Kao, Siak Regency, land that once lay idle is now being cultivated for banana plantations.
The initiative began with support from APRIL through the provision of banana seedlings and training on cultivation techniques and pest management.
Through ongoing mentoring and technical guidance, local farmers have strengthened their capabilities to utilise the plantations. Today, local farmer groups collectively manage 8.5 hectares of banana plantations across five villages, with the capacity to produce up to 26,000 kilograms of bananas annually.

PELALAWAN, RIAU – APRIL Group hosted Board Packaging Week (BPW) 2026 from 23–25 June 2026 in Pelalawan, Riau. The inaugural forum brought together players from across the printing and packaging industry, including technology suppliers, printing companies, and brand owners, to discuss innovation, operational excellence, and opportunities to develop premium and sustainable packaging solutions.
BPW 2026 brought together more than 75 participants from 37 companies representing the printing industry, brand owners, and APRIL’s strategic partners from across Indonesia, including Greater Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Riau, and West Sumatra. Through the forum, APRIL Group brought together customers, prospective customers, brand owners, and technology partners to strengthen collaboration and deepen understanding of paperboard production processes, packaging applications, and evolving market demand for premium, efficient, and sustainable packaging solutions.

To ensure these efforts remain aligned with the company’s broader sustainability targets, APRIL established the Sustainability Programme team. The team works closely with departments and key stakeholders to coordinate projects and keep progress on track.
